Data Cabling / Cat5e Cabling / Cat6 Cabling
What is Data Cabling?
The cable you plug into your PC/Notebook sometime knows as ‘Internet Cable’ or ‘Ethernet Cable’ is called a Data cable or network cable. Most of the time the Data Cable runs back to a central location (Serve Room) that connects to a switch. Other devices will also have a cable to this switch and this is how the devices on the local network communicate.
Data Cabling is the most important aspect when looking at communication between devices withing the local network. Speeds on the network will vary from the type of network cabling used when the network is installed. The two main types of network cable used in data cabling will be Cat5e Ethernet cable and Cat6 Ethernet cable.
There is a lot of Data Cabling Companies and choosing the right cabling company is key!
Cat5e VS Cat6 and Cat6A
With any network cabling or data cabling project the first thing you need to know is what type of cable you will need and how this will effect your Budget and which will give you the best results!
In Short:
Choose Cat5e when you have a limited budged, when you do not use any bandwidth hungry application over the local network and when the runs are less than 50m
Choose Cat6 when you have the budget for it, when you use bandwidth hungry applications over the local network
Choose Cat6A when you want to really prepare for the future and have the budged for it. You will get the most out of Cat6A if your looking for speeds and reliability.
What is UTP:
UTP is the most conman cable whether it’s Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat6A, they have no shield or foil. Unless otherwise stated any basic Quote will be quoted on UTP cable (Unshielded Twisted Pair)
What is Shielded Cable? (STP or FTP – Shielded Twisted Pair)
This type of cable whether you choose Cat5e STP, Cat6 STP or Cat6A STP will have a Shielded foil around the cable. This foil will limited interference caused by High Voltage cables that might run parallel or close to the cables.
Cat5e Network Cable:
Cat5e Network Cable:
- Speed: 10/100/1000 mbps
- Gigabit up to 100 meters
- Most interference out of the 3 cable options
- Most Crosstalk out of the 3 cable options
- Higher Delay than Ca6 or Cat6A
- Cheap and Cost effective
- Colors: Mostly used Gray and Blue
- Outdoor and Shielded options
Cat6 Network Cable:
- Speed: 10/100/1000/ 10 000 mbps
- 10 Gigabit up to 50 meters
- Less interference compared to Cat5e
- less Crosstalk compared to Cat5e
- Higher Delay compared to Cat6A
- Does cost more than Cat5e
- Colors: Mostly used Gray and Blue
- Outdoor and Shielded options
Cat6A Network Cable:
- Speed: 10/100/1000/ 10 000 mbps
- 10 Gigabit up to 100 meters
- Less Interference compared to Cat6
- Less Crosstalk compared to Cat6
- Lesser crosstalk than any other
- Most expensive
- Colors: Mostly used Gray and Blue
- Outdoor and Shielded options
